Deliverance

I often forget that the weapons used in my quest for spirituality are not weapons of this world, but divine weapons, provided by God for my ultimate victory. Of course we know that deliverance from sin is not the same as deliverance from human nature where one will be called upon to rid self of such things as prejudices, lust, hate, etc. even though previously that same person was already delivered from sin. Jesus, on the cross paid the price for delivery from sin but each of us is responsible, then, for cleaning our own “vessel” in preparation for being filled with the Spirit so that we may live successfully in the Spirit. Oswald Chambers makes the interesting statement that “there are things in human nature that can only be destroyed by neglect.” He refers to those abstracts already mentioned  which permeate the mind, where they create a powerful feeling of need.

“It is only when God has transformed our nature and we have entered into the experience of sanctification that the fight begins.” The warfare we are engaged in is against self in which we learn how to turn our natural life into a spiritual life. It is not an easy task, nor, I think, did God intend it to be easy. It is achieved through the moral choices we make remembering always that Satan cannot force us to follow him. He does not have this power.

Another quotation from Mr. Chambers: “God does not make us holy in the sense that He makes our character holy. He makes us holy in the sense that He has made us innocent before Him” which is saying that He restores us in the way in which He sees us to a state of innocence. It is our second chance to begin again with a clean slate, restored to the innocence in which we were born. Finishing the quotation it ends by saying : “We have to turn that innocence into holy character through the moral choices we make.”
